Finding an NHS Dentist is increasingly difficult as more and more of them quit the NHS following the new dental charges from April 2006. Over 2000 Dentists (10%of the total) have left the NHS, and more are expected to follow. Even if you have an NHS Dentist the new charges may lead to your paying more.

What dental insurance cover policies are available?

A number of dental insurance policies offering help with costs are available, and vary in cost and cover.

We have chosen to offer the Providental dental insurance policy from the Western Provident Association (WPA) that we believe offers excellent value for money. WPA is a leading not for profit insurer that traces its roots back to 1901.

How does the policy work?

The policy operates on a "shared responsibility" basis where you pay 25% of the bill to a maximum liability of £500 in any policy year and WPA pays 75%. Understandably, benefit levels and cost depend on which cover you choose.

Which dentist can I use?

You may use any registered Dentist at home or abroad. There is no underwriting if you have seen a UK Dentist for treatment or a check up within the last 18 months. There is a qualifying period of 3 months for routine dentistry and 14 days for emergency treatment.
